PUFA are long chain compounds with a carboxyl group at one end and a\nmethyl group at another end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omega fatty acids (mainly Omega-3, 6 and 9) are characterized by the\npresence of two or more double bonds in the long chain where the number 3,6,9\nrepresents the position of double bond from the methyl end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.truebasics.com\/blog\/omega-3-roles-benefits-sources\/\">Omega-3<\/a> fatty acids mainly come in three forms &#8211; \u03b1-Linolenic acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omega-3 fatty acids are considered incredibly beneficial for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truebasics.com\/blog\/role-of-omega-3-in-heart-health\/\">heart<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truebasics.com\/blog\/role-of-omega-3-in-eye-health\/\">eye<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truebasics.com\/blog\/role-of-omega-3-in-brain-health\/\">brain<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truebasics.com\/blog\/role-of-omega-3-in-skin-health\/\">skin<\/a> and help fight inflammation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ALA is often found in plant sources of Omega-3 while marine sources are\ngenerally high on EPA and DHA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though our body can convert ALA to EPA &amp; DHA, the process is very\ninefficient. Mackerel flesh gets spoiled easily when kept without proper\nrefrigeration, especially in tropic areas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 100g serving of salted mackerel fish contains about 5134 mg of Omega-3\nfatty acids.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong>2. Salmon <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salmon is a popular oily fish with orange, red and white flesh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is one of the healthiest fish due to its high protein, omega-3 fatty\nacids, and vitamin D content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Half a fillet of cooked, farmed Atlantic salmon contains 4,123 mg Omega-3\ncontent i.e. approximately 2,260 mg in 100 grams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farmed salmon has higher Omega-3 content in comparison to wild salmon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be prepared in many ways including smoking, baking, frying, and\nmaking soup or curry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong>3. Anchovy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anchovies are small, oily, common forage fish commonly found in marine\nwaters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are more than 140 species of anchovies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anchovies are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids along with\nVitamin A and Vitamin D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be cooked and preserved in many ways like pickling in vinegar,\npacking in salt, keeping in brine, etc. or sometimes rolled around capers. It\nis preserved in the form of paste also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are anchovy fillets packed in oil or salt in small tins or jars\nfor domestic uses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anchovies contain about 2113 mg of omega-3 per 100g serving.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong>6.
